The unintended expatriate blogger behind MildHarborMarble

Hi there, I'm Sophia

I work as a project manager. I'm a parent. I'm an expatriate living in Berlin, Germany.

Several years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.

How It Began

Moving to Germany wasn't in the plan for the long run. As with many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.

The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more tricky than expected.

The Transition Phase

There was culture shock, ambiguity, and a lot of learning on the go. But gradually, routines took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began constructing something that felt steady.

Why I Built MildHarborMarble

Most information online was either corporate relocation tips or shallow sightseeing material. What was lacking was a frank, everyday-family perspective.

This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Germany.

What This Site Does (And Doesn't)

This site is:

  • Real-world experience from living in Germany
  • Centered on family life and daily realities
  • Updated whenever something truly changes

This site isn't:

  • Not a tourism authority resource
  • Not a sponsored review platform
  • Not a generic travel blog

Looking Forward

Our time in Germany continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we uncover.

If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, please feel free to get in touch.

Best regards,

Sophia
